Martha lives in a villa on the French Pyrenees, together with her uncle Sir Ralph, the housekeeper Mrs. Breton and the chauffeur Marcos. The plot of the film is based on an ancient Spanish folk legend, which tells the story of a child who is found as an infant by friars, who then raise him with care and love. As Marcellino grows older, he feels the need for a friend, and he finds one in a neglected crucifix in the attic of the convent. A tender friendship develops between the boy and the figure of the Redeemer: every day, Marcellino brings bread and wine to his Friend, secretly taken from the friars' pantry, and every day, Jesus listens to the child's small troubles and desires.
